In the early 1900s

As we can’t host lectures or events (because there’s a global pandemic [FYI]) and thus don’t need to worry about projecting slides on one of our walls

showcasing the evolution of a designer who defined the visual identity of postwar Japan

) From the library of Toshi Katayama

Zasu (Frantisek Zelenka) JohnGall built in 1877 for JamesFrantiek Zelenka (19041944) was a Czech functionalist architect, graphic, stage and costume designer. He died at Auschwitz, but before that he designed this striking cover for a musical score by Jaroslav Jezek. Apparently that bob wearing beauty is silent film star Louise Brooks. We know the Venn diagram that covers Zelenkaheads and Brooks Worms shows a massive overlap, so move quick as this one is destined to go fast.
